"BE THE ENERGY YOU WANT TO ATTRACT."

BONNIE LAWRENCE

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU DO?

My name is Bonnie Lawrence and I am a graphic designer based out of Venice, California. I am originally from North Carolina and moved out to LA solo. I literally just drove my Jeep cross country and explored different cities until I arrived. My passions include: fashion, spirituality, art, and cooking vegan.

WHAT IS THE ONE PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT THAT YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF?

I’m probably most proud of the fact I went skydiving this year. I never thought it would be something I would do because just thinking about it was terrifying. Next thing I know, I’m in Bora Bora jumping out of a plane. I would totally do it again. The view was beautiful.

WHAT CHANGES ARE YOU HOPING TO SEE IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS?

I’m hoping to see more people giving veganism a try! It’s no longer as difficult as some people like to make it sound. There are so many new, amazing products made of plants to replace animal products.

WHAT PART OF YOUR LIFE DO YOU THINK NEEDS MOST IMPROVEMENT IN TERMS OF SUSTAINABILITY?

I think definitely cutting down on the amount of plastic I use. I notice a lot of the essentials I buy come in plastic packaging. I think buying in bulk and bringing my own containers would be a good place to start. I heard of a zero waste store in NYC, where things don’t come in packaging and are responsibly sourced- I’ll have to look into seeing if anywhere in LA has a similar concept.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS THE EASIEST THING ANYONE CAN DO TO MAKE AN IMPACT?

I think going plant-based a few times a week is a great place to start if we are talking about the environment. Also, kindness goes a long way in general. :)

WHERE DO YOU SEE THE WORLD IN TEN YEARS?

I do have faith in humanity- so in ten years I think we will see positive change, which will stem from awareness. I think we will be able to develop new technologies that will help us understand and solve environmental issues, diseases, and address the hunger epidemic. It’s easy to think negatively, but we have to remain positive and proactive. I also think we will see veganism becoming more mainstream. It is definitely already more recognized than when I went vegan a little over three years ago. I’m looking forward to that.
